Lady Veterans Connect | June 2025 Highlights
Celebrating Women Veterans, Community Heroes, and Continued Impact
This June, Lady Veterans Connect (LVC) honors the 77th Anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act with a special event on June 14 at the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort. The event will feature speakers including Dr. Tamika Saxx, a decorated Army veteran and mental health advocate. Dr. Saxx's remarkable military and civilian service exemplifies the resilience and leadership of women veterans.
LVC also spotlights Shirley Hampton, a U.S. Air Force veteran and former Anna’s House resident. After years of homelessness, Shirley's journey of transformation is a powerful testament to healing, strength, and the impact of support programs. She was recently honored as the "Home Town Hero" at the Lexington Legends Military Appreciation Game.
Other newsletter highlights include:
A tribute to Korea-era veterans Mary Phaire and the late June Cummins Hoskins
A call for grant-writing volunteers to sustain and grow LVC’s mission
Upcoming events like the Central KY Day of Valor (June 28) and Veterans, Military & Public Expo (July 26) in Elizabethtown
Community partnership recognition, including a donation from Maker’s Mark Distillery
Ongoing veterans breakfast gatherings and “Coffee Times for Vets” meetups
As always, LVC continues to advocate for, uplift, and connect women veterans across Kentucky. To support this work, consider donating or joining Kroger Community Rewards using ID# 20782.
