About Us
Our Story
Lady Veterans Connect is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support and transitional services for female veterans. Established in 2012 as Sheppard's Hands by founder Phyllis Abbott, the organization was officially renamed in 2016. Since then, Lady Veterans Connect has been instrumental in preventing homelessness among female veterans in Kentucky, connecting over 500 women veterans with needed resources, including continual occupancy in the Thurman-Abbott House, which serves as a transitional healing home, offering shelter and resources to women veterans in need.
To date, over 500 lady veterans have been connected with vital support through our programs. In 2019 alone, our dedicated board members and volunteers contributed over 28,000 hours to serving veterans. Our commitment to expanding our impact led us to purchase and renovate a former elementary school in Winchester, KY, which will soon provide housing for 32 female veterans. At Lady Veterans Connect, we are honored to support those who have served our country and are dedicated to ensuring that no woman veteran is left behind.
