You can now self-refer to GYN appointments
How is VA changing the process for Veterans to schedule gynecology appointments? Enrolled women Veterans can now schedule gynecology appointments without needing a referral from primary care. If they choose, Veterans can continue receiving routine women’s health care, screening, and services from their regular women’s health and primary care teams. Eligible women Veterans may request VA community care for gynecology services without needing a referral from primary care based upon criteria, including if VA is not able to provide gynecology care at their local VA medical facility, when there are increased wait times, or when it is in Veterans’ best medical interest. Why is VA making this change? The Secretary is committed to putting Veterans first. Eliminating this unnecessary step eases access to critical care for women Veterans. The new process prioritizes the Veteran experience by enabling them to schedule appointments with VA gynecology or community-based gynecology when appropriate – without a referral from primary care. What types of issues should I call to schedule with GYN? - Menstrual Problems - Pelvic pain, pain with intercourse - Unusual vaginal bleeding/pain - Infertility - Pelvic floor concerns, bladder leakage, incontinence - Menopausal symptoms - Masses/lesions - Polycystic Ovaries - Low libido - PMDD - Birth control (pills or implants) - Concerns for STI’s - Regular cervical cancer screenings (this is not an inclusive list - If you are not sure, call our nurse to ask) How do I call to schedule this appointment?
