Memorial Day 2025: Honoring the Brave, Remembering the Fallen

As we observe Memorial Day this year, Lady Veterans Connect invites you to join us in honoring the lives of all service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. This day is more than a holiday—it is a moment of collective remembrance, a time to reflect on the cost of freedom, and a chance to honor the women and men whose legacy of courage endures.

For us at Lady Veterans Connect, this day holds profound meaning. As an organization dedicated to supporting women who served, we carry not only the stories of those who returned—but also the memory of those who did not.

While women have served in every conflict since the American Revolution, their contributions have often gone unrecognized. Today, women make up approximately 17% of the U.S. Armed Forces and over 10% of the veteran population. More than 700 women have died in service since the Revolutionary War, including in combat zones where they served as medics, pilots, intelligence officers, engineers, and in countless other critical roles.

We remember pioneers like 1LT Sharon Lane, the only American servicewoman killed by enemy fire in Vietnam, and LTC Karen Wagner, who was killed in the Pentagon during the attacks of September 11th. These women, and many others, laid down their lives not for recognition, but for country and community.

As women veterans, Memorial Day is personal. We remember the sisters and comrades we’ve lost—their faces, their laughter, their dedication. Their sacrifice strengthens our resolve to serve, support, and uplift the women who continue to step forward in defense of our freedoms.

At Lady Veterans Connect, we honor their legacy not only in remembrance, but through action: by providing housing, peer support, job training, and a healing community to women veterans rebuilding their lives after service.

This Memorial Day, we encourage you to reflect, to reach out, and to remember. Whether you attend a ceremony, place a flag, or simply pause in silence, know that your remembrance helps keep their stories alive.

Let us honor the fallen by supporting the living.

Because behind every uniform is a story—and every story matters.

In remembrance,

Lady Veterans Connect
